Scientific Stylisation or the ‘Democracy Dilemma’ of Graphical Abstracts

The need for more democratic models of interaction between scientists and non-expert audiences, the current commodification research advancements digital affordances have recently given rise to new online genres science dissemination, such as graphical abstract, increasingly demanded by high-impact journals despite its uncertain function. In this paper, I examine problems posed hybrid genre implementation dialogical dissemination; namely, inferential confusion concepts narrative sequences, trivialisation overall interpretive complexity, all them caused or affected visual stylisation. After scrutinising over 1000 abstract samples from blogs, networks random finds published in specialised high-rank international journals, provide a taxonomy stylisation make case explicit literacy training students scholars, well higher level specification guidelines potential authors scientific journals.
